Jazz Concert at State Mine
Ducks still have a touch of class

Story by Len Ashworth – Lithgow Mercury 18/10/2005

Galapagos Duck is a name synonymous with the Australian music scene for decades.

And while only the name remains the same from the initial “Duck” line-up of many years back, a concert at the State Mine Heritage Park on Saturday 15 October 2005 revealed that the group retains the same touch of class that has made them a byword over the years.

The program included interpretations of some jazz and blues standards as well as some delightful interpretations of old timers like, believe it or not, the old Doris Day hit “Secret Love” and a true crowd pleasing version of “Pennies From Heaven”.

The band was in good form after performing the previous day at the Moruya jazz festival.

It was also their first appearance in Lithgow since featuring at a Fire Brigade Ball some years ago.

The concert was promoted by the State Mine Heritage Park committee.

It was a delightful way to spend a Saturday afternoon and again highlighted just what a wonderful venue for live performances is available in the natural amphitheatre created by the gullies around the museum.

The Galapagos Duck performance was supplemented by entertainments that included classic car and motorcycle displays, demonstrations of vintage pumps and other motors, the Lithgow Band and blacksmithing demonstrations.
